It's Accessible! (2 posts)

I'm currently running 3.7 Beta 2 of WordPress. I downloaded and installed this theme, switched it on and it works like a charm.

    Nice features:
    Three columns AND it's responsive.
The two level horizontal approach to drop down menus is a welcome change.
Most importantly, it's accessible* which is a rarity in the WordPress Theme directory.

*I prefer the word inclusive to accessible but until the name change becomes more widespread I'll stick with accessible so that people know what I'm talking about.

    I'm afraid I wouldn't call it "accessible".

    • There's no focus link highlighting for sighted keyboard navigators.
    • Some (visited?) links in the content area are not underlined so are not visually distinguishable from plain text
    • There is plain text inside the comment form that is not explicitly associated with label tag - which will cause the text to be completely ignored by JAWS when in Forms mode.
    • The theme does not use a logical and intuitive heading structure and skips some header tags.

And that's from just a very cursory examination. It has some nice accessible touches but it still needs improvement before it could actually be classed as "accessible".
