• Hi,

    I installed the lastest version of iThemes Security v6.1.1 on WordPress v4.7.2 and using Flatsome v2.5 theme. I got many function on my iThemes Security not working, coming back with this warning message:
    “An “invalid format” error prevented the request from completing as expected. The format of data returned could not be recognized. This could be due to a plugin/theme conflict or a server configuration issue.”

    I especially want the hide backend function to work but it keeps coming back with the above error. I have tried so many different login slug but non-working. Does anyone have the same issue? Is it not compatible with Flatsome theme? Help please…
    Thank you.

    To rule out the possibility of a theme conflict simply deactivate the Flatsome v2.5 theme and temporarily activate the TwentySeventeen theme.
    Then retest.

    @pronl I am not confident enough switching one theme to another, I don’t think it is as simple as activate and deactivate the buttons. I am not an expert in wordpress, I don’t really want to mess up the site. Is there any other way? I would love to here if anyone using flatsome having issue or not. Thank you.

    @tolearn

    Ok, I see. It might not even be a theme conflict issue.
    The same issue has been reported before in this forum with other themes.
    A php stack trace would probably help figure this out.

    Try and run the following search on Google:

    site:wordpress.org/support/ "ithemes security" invalid format error request

    It will give you all previous iTSec forum topics reporting the same issue.
    One actually contains a solution (write privileges to the wp-config.php file).

    Ignore any of dwinden (me) previous instructions for debugging the issue.
    Oh and what I’m personally interested in: is this perhaps a Windows based env (not linux) ?

    @pronl yes it is under Windows hosting. I tried to install WPS Hide Login plugin and it is working fine to change my url login page. I would be great to get the iThemes Security one working instead of installing more plugin.

    I got more issue now as the Lost Password Page is not found when I clicked it. I have tried deactivate ithemes security and Wps hide login so they are not the issue. Any idea?
    Thanks.

    I think you should know that the iTSec plugin is not tested by iThemes on the Windows platform. Subsequently there are some bugs in the iTSec plugin which are Windows platform specific. These are never ever going to be fixed by iThemes as they simply never ever run the plugin from a Windows platform (as far as I know).
    Their main focus is on the Linux platform.

    So basically, running the iTSec plugin in WordPress from a Windows platform is a risk.

    Are you also using IIS as the web server (not Apache or Nginx) ?
    Using IIS as the web server severely limits the iTSec plugin functionality.

    As to the lost password issue, if you don’t mind I’d like to stick with iTSec plugin issues.

    @pronl thank you for your help. I changed my hosting OS to Linux and the web server is Nginx. I still got the same error message??

    @tolearn

    Well at least you are on a supported platform now 😉

    Could you give me the big picture of what you are trying to achieve ?

    The reason why I ask is because switching platform is a trickier task than switching active theme. Still switching platform seems to be an easier option for you.

    Was the WordPress env on the Windows platform also a moved/copied env from a different hosting or platform ? Perhaps the issue(s) are related to moving the WordPress install from A to B.

    Just trying to get the big picture here.

    @pronl your question is quite completed for me 😀 I am not fully understanding it all myself. Basically, every time I did some unexpectd changes (like deactive woocommerce plugin) on my WordPress admin site, I got locked out with unable to access my admin site and had to search google for people solutions. So this time, I locked into my web/domain hosting site. There is an option there to change from Windows to Linux. However I didn’t see any detail about my web hosting is doing copying or moving. I did read that it may take 24hrs for switching to Linux, but looks like it mine was done pretty quick. Finger-cross I won’t see my site crash tomorrow.
    Sorry I can’t answer your question regarding platform.
    I just updated my flatsome theme to v2.9 and I got my google map not working. Once I fix this, I will try the iTSec again. If it is still not working, then I won’t be bother (I use WPS Hide Login). It is just annoying when I read very good reviews of iTSec but not working when I used it!
