• Seems like a pretty basic feature for a plugin that does something so very simple.

EDIT: Developers added the feature. Well done and thanks!

  • Isn’t that the way fonts work? Variable fonts only encompass weights, not style variants.

Not for a plugin. The plugin could provide any interface it wishes so that we don’t need to treat the two as separate fonts. In fact, the plugin developers stated many months ago that this feature was being developed in a forum thread where someone asked for this. Several people seconded the request, saying it would be useful for them as well and the developer simply said that it wasn’t a priority. We aren’t talking about CSS references here

No, this is not the the way the fonts work. This is a bad approach.

When someone are editing a text and wont to mark some word with italics, you simply touch the italic button. With this approach you will be forced to change the font every time you need a word in italic.

normal – false italic provided by plugin – true italic
