I’m in the same situation. I used to use the old WordPress Media Library’s import-from-URL function (importing video clips =< 5BM ) and it did not duplicate the data, it just “added it to the Library”. Like iTunes does when you tell it not to copy music while importing.

That feature was removed from the new WP 3.5 media importer.

I was hoping this plugin would give me a work around, and at least it does let me get the files into WP this way, which is better than nothing (yay!) but it would be nice if it would not duplicate the data. That can sure eat up the user’s disk quota in a hurry with video files 🙂

To the author of this plugin: Would you please consider adding an option where the plugin does not copy the data while importing.

And, the plugin’s home page makes it look like this plugin is old, unmaintained, and may not work with WP 3.5.

Also, the old media gallery import-from-URL let me copy-and-paste a full URL (that would be a nice feature).

I can confirm that this plugin does at least install on 3.5 and imports via a sort of file-manager interface where you can navigate through directories and select files to “import”.
