Support » Plugin: Under Construction » It works, but not keen on being prompted for a review.

  • It works as such a simple plugin should – nice templates. But not happy about the phone-home function* that (repeatedly) pops up on the dashboard prodding us for a review. On that basis may change to another maintenance plugin that does not.
    * Yes, plenty of other apps and plugins do the same.

The plugin does NOT have any phone home functions! You may be irritated because we ask you for a review – not a problem, switch to another plugin. But there is absolutely no phone-home functionality in the plugin which is more than visible by looking into the code.

@mod this is a blunt lie and we are accused of violating one of the basic rules of the Repo so I ask that the review is redacted or removed. Thank you.

@webfactory Though the reviewer may be mistaken on the phoning home aspect, which you have already addressed, the rest of their review addresses valid concerns that they have, along with a rating they feel the plugin deserves. A review is an opinion, plain and simple.

In other words, this is a valid review.

You do have an opportunity to turn this around into a positive review, as they can adjust their rating at any time.

I recommend also reading https://make.wordpress.org/support/2016/08/about-plugin-and-theme-reviews/ for a longer take on the subject.

I’d rather delete the plugin from the repo than adjust anything based on false accusations by an ungrateful liar.

I’m baffled by the fact that you acknowledge that he is “mistaken on the phoning home aspect” which is a serious accusation but still find the review “valid”. It’s at best half-valid but obviously, that’s good enough.

Your plugin has an average rating of 5 stars out of 480 total reviews. If you wish to remove it from the directory over one 2 star review, that is certainly your choice.

The user may have been wrong about the phoning home, but not about the notification which “pops up on the dashboard prodding us for a review.”

As I already said, there is always the opportunity they may change their rating, but I doubt calling them a “ungrateful liar” will help with that.

They simply shared their opinion as a review. You have every opportunity to make an attempt to change that opinion.
