When you set up Maintenance Mode every SSL plugin stops to work properly. Tested on 4 websites. Maintenance Mode should return 503 HTTP Service unavailable code to indexing robots but it returns to SSL plugins as well. So, you get such message: It appears like your server does not support SSL, please ask your hosting provider or URL could not be loaded – Code 503 (in any SSL scanner).

Hi, what SSL plugins do you use?

I checked my dev server with CMP enabled in mainteannce mode(returns 503 code) and it seems it still works correctly – for example https://www.ssltools.com/report/123383fd-b395-4468-9018-65f5a648c915

Yes, it seems to work correctly but you should look into plugins info:

    Really Simple SSL
    WP Force SSL

    One Click SSL

Tested on 3 servers and 3 different themes, and 2 different SSLs.

I tried Really Simple SSL which seems to be working

But you are right about WP Force SSL, which makes AJAX request back to website to check SSL certificate. With CMP Maintenance mode I recieve https://imgur.com/a/Ot3xebZ error message, which make sense as CMP intercepts all incoming requests.

But those are just for a testing, and really not affecting your website SSL settings, which should work correctly – you just need to set https correctly under WordPress settings https://imgur.com/MJCUy9w

No, Really Simple SSL works but shows 1 warning, as well. One Click SSL shows many errors. It`s not so easy (“not affecting your website SSL settings”) because it may be a big problem for SEO. It’s shows that the plugin is not working correctly.

When plugin interacts with other plugins it is already a problem, if it disables SSL visibility for other plugins it is a big problem, because we don’t know what else can come out of it. Currently you propose to ignore the topic, and here you need to fix the bug and remove potential threats.

I am not ignoring the request, I am saying it is expected behavior – One Click SSL returns 503 error message over SSL – which is expected since CMP is in a Maintenance mode and set to returns 503 code.

You can change the CMP mode to Coming soon, which returns 200 OK message and One Click SSL works flawlesly.

I am open to discussion, but from my point of view, it works as expected.

Btw if you care about SEO, then you shold not put the websites into Maintenance Mode for too long – crawler robots will abandon the site if it returns 503 for a longer period of time

Ajax URL for plugins have been whitelisted automatically, I tested few SEO plugins and it works as expected..
