 * Welp, nothing like another plugin installation issue thread! However I did go
   through the other ones here and on google and of course I’m still here.
 * So I have two sites on one host, WP for both, Evolve as the theme for both. I’m
   able to install plugins fine on the one, not the other. This is what the other
   says: Installation failed: Could not create directory.
 * I contacted my host and they said they were able to create new directories for
   either site with no issues… So I would love any help you may have!

 * This is usually a permissions issue. The plugin folder probably doesn’t have
   the appropriate permissions to install new plugins via the dashboard. If you
   are unable to make permission changes yourself, have your host update your folders
   to the following:
 * All directories should be 755 or 750.
    All files should be 644 or 640. Exception:
   wp-config.php should be 440 or 400 to prevent other users on the server from
   reading it. No directories should ever be given 777, even upload directories.
   Since the php process is running as the owner of the files, it gets the owners
   permissions and can write to even a 755 directory.

 * [@egf](https://wordpress.org/support/users/egf/) – Hey thanks for the help. Thing
   is, can’t find the frickin plugins folder to begin with in my host’s file manager…
   But tell me this, does your solution still apply, as I’m still able to install
   plugins in my one site but not the other.

 * Plugins should be located at /wp-content/plugins
 * If you have one site that is working properly and one that is not, I would guess
   that the permissions are incorrect on the site that is not working properly.
   Generally if you have more than one site it will be multiple installs of wordpress
   and thusly multiple plugin folders.

 * [@egf](https://wordpress.org/support/users/egf/) – Interesting, but in looking
   into my file manager, I had to dig a little to get into the plugin folder to
   begin with. I noticed there are not two separate folders for each site, and a
   different sub for the plugins as well. Either way I’m wondering if a refresh \
   factory reset will fix this, but really want to be sure before I start from scratch
   with limited backups.

 * So I’m guessing you’re seeing this:
 * site1name/wp-content/plugins
    and site2name/wp-content/plugins
 * If so, the permissions could be different between the two folders thus one site
   working and one not.
 * Are you able to view these folders in a terminal screen and check the permissions?
   If you can get to the folder in a terminal type “ls -la” to show the contents
   of the folder along with the permissions.

 * [@egf](https://wordpress.org/support/users/egf/) – Wanted to thank you instead
   of leaving the thread hanging, it ended up being issues with one of the hosts
   I was using… Sadly it was more than one. Either way that fixed it so I’ll close
   this thread… Thanks again for the help!
