I have been using Really Simple SSL now since the spring time. Other than updating the software for this plugin and WordPress in general, nothing has changed on my site in the past few months. The past few days, since my posting on Saturday, google plus has been having issues crawling my website and occasionally I’m getting an error message that says “This URL is unreachable. Ensure robots.txt is responding with a 200 status code.” It comes up in the google testing tool. On the front end, the only thing I see is the image I have always used at the end of each of my blog postings is not being populated in my share and I have to continue to refresh to eventually see it show up. The reason why I’m opening this here is that I’ve been suggested by Google developers in their forums and also Jetpack developers who tested as well, that the Really Simple SSL may be causing the issue and causing my site to occasionally not be reached? I don’t really understand much of this and am not really tech savvy at all when it comes to this. I pretty much just write my articles and post them and have let everything else just work as it always has. Since I don’t really understand Really Simple SSL and it’s being suggested that it may be the problem, I’m hoping you might take a look into my website on your side and see what you see? The latest URL for my site is – https://thetwelfthstep.com/2018/09/17/grateful-heart-monday-34/.

    Thanks and sincerely,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

That is pretty weird, that developers tell you this is caused by Really Simple SSl. This only shows they don’t really know what Really Simple SSL does, and just did a random guess. What the plugin does:
    – redirect to https
    – fix mixed content
    – change url to https

These all cannot cause connection errors to your server, which seems to be the case here.

I just did a quick check on your site, and noticed your site shows this error message for a very short time, then redirects:
    err_ssl_version_interference

When I search for this error, I get some results referencing TLS1.3. Such errors in a browser are always the result of server configuration issues.

For this kind of error you can best contact your hosting company, I think they should be able to help you with it.

Rogier, thank you for responding so quickly. I am inclined to agree with you. Unfortunately, my site is with GoDaddy and I use a Managed WordPress environment and they occasionally make changes that affect my operation and then don’t own up to it. So, I’m guessing they just recently made a server configuration error that is affecting me, as this just started happening on Saturday. I’ve been using ReallySimpleSSL and have the certificate on my website since about April with no issues. Then suddenly they appear and so, that’s why I’m inclined to believe it’s on GoDaddy’s side. The downside, is that the people I get to talk to usually have no idea what I’m talking about and so, I’m just hoping that someone higher up in their testing will come across this and figure it out and resolve it, because the last time I tried to explain to them an issue that was in their server, I wasted 3 hours of time on the phone and got nowhere and that is generally the ongoing issue I have with them. Regrettably, I can’t afford to put my blog on my own server, because of financial limitations. Nor do I have the wherewithal to move to a new hosting provider, as I’m not very tech savvy. So, I’m stuck with this error it looks like until someone finds a way to communicate to the server developers at GoDaddy…

    Hi Andrew,

I am facing the same problem with my website from past one week. It’s with GoDaddy hosting and SSL certificate is also with GoDaddy. They seem to be of no help for this issue. I checked your website and now it seems to be working fine. May I know about the solution please.

@pradeep89 hey there, honestly, I did one thing. I removed a link on my site that for the life of me I can’t remember now what it was but after I did that and went into google testing tools and recrawled my site and it was working again. So sadly I don’t have an answer other than that.

@andrewarthurdawson Hey, I really appreciate your help. I tried explaining the problem to the tech team at Godaddy, I sent a screenshot as well. They seem to be of Zero help. It has become difficult to make them understand the problem. Thank you for the reply. I will see if I can remove few recent updates and if it works. Below is the website, request you to have a look at it once. https://www.technorent.in/

    Hi Pradeep,

the site returns an ERR_SSL_VERSION_INTERFERENCE error for a split second before loading the page. This is often caused by a misconfiguration on the server and should be fixed by your hosting provider.
