• A previous developer installed “meta slider light” with a photo slide on my landing page. I’ve deactived the slider plugin, but “something” is still sitting on the page, causing a wide gap between the header and the start of my blog posts.

Could somebody please tell me how to get it off the page? It’s easily seen at http://www.youthworkerstoolbox.com/

Thanks for whatever help is possible.

  • What happens when you remove the big orange Text Widget? To find out, go to Appearance -> Widgets in the dashboard. The widget might be located in an area called Home Featured, or something like that. Move the widget to the Inactive Widgets section to deactivate (this ensures that your settings for the widget are saved in case you want to use it again.)

The reason I ask this is that in examining your site, that widget is being displayed in a div area identified as home-featured. I suspect that the slider was also being displayed in that area. However, the widget is large and I suspect that it is holding the home-featured area open. There is likely a template file issue that needs to be dealt with programatically to correct this in the best way, but I suspect that simply removing the widget would be good enough to make a cosmetic fix.

    Dear Prometheus,

Wow! You’re amazing, as I followed your suggestions and that’s exactly what was going on.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

    Thanks! Glad it worked out.

On a side note, that widget is pretty powerful visually. That orange is nice and if it provides some functionality with the newsletter signup, I would move it to the top of the sidebar that you are currently using. It certainly adds a nice splash of color to the page.

    Thanks again.

As you may have guessed, I’m relatively new to WP, having migrated from Typepad last spring….and so glad I did. I’m better at content than design, and pretty timid about messing stuff up! But it’s clear that my next part of the project is to find someone to do design work!

Thanks again for your help. I’ll try moving the newsletter pic up as you suggest.
