    Hi,

We have been using form grid with 3 columns for a long time and the CSS formatting as far a I recall was based automatically on our theme. We loved it so much that we added some extra stuff on the donate page based on those buttons. At some point, an upgrade broke our grid and it showed an error. We restored the grid only to find that we lost all CSS – no background color, text not centered as before. Adding custom CSS to the grid on the donate page is breaking the grid with this error “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed.”

Can you please help? Thank you!

  • Hi @shihtzurescue ,
Glad you reached out. I’d like to gather a bit more information about CSS that is broken on your site.

First, send along your system information. You can do this by navigating to Donations > Tools > System Info (tab) and click the button to “Get System Report” and copy/paste that in your reply here.

Just to confirm: You are using the Form Grid Block, do I have that right?

GiveWP tends to “stay in our lane” when it comes to CSS, leaving the heavy lifting to your theme. I’m running some tests using the Form Grid Block, and the most updated version of GiveWP to see if I can replicate an error or some breakage. In the meantime, your system information will help give me more context about your theme and other plugins you are running that will help me during the testing process.

Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime, I’m happy to help.

@stephanieliy thank you for responding. I am indeed referring to Form Grid Block that you linked to.

We do have many plug-ins at this time (gasp) but that will change soon.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Hi @shihtzurescue,
I’ve run a series of tests with GiveWP and the Form Grid Block, and wasn’t able to replicate CSS breaking. I also attempted a series of tests using some of the plugins you are running, but didn’t have success there, either.

There are some plugins running that I’m not able to test, and I’m not able to test the theme, either because they are paid products or because the configurations for them are too varied for me to really accurately test. I suspect another plugin or your theme may be behind this, but I can’t be 100% sure which. I would recommend running a Health Check to help narrow down the culprit. You can read more about that here: https://givewp.com/documentation/resources/troubleshoot-wordpress-websites-health-check/

I need for an issue to be replicable in order to dig in and troubleshoot it, and because I can’t replicate independently in my own sandbox at the moment, I’m relatively stuck. If you run through that Health Check and can get me some rails to run on, I’d be happy to hop back in for further testing.

Let me know if you have questions in the meantime!

@stephanieliy OK, let me run Health Check and get back to you. Thank you for your help so far.

@stephanieliy ran Health Check and saw that with just Give and the theme enabled, the issue exists – no background color, left aligned. Changed the theme to twenty twenty and saw the same thing.

    Hi @shihtzurescue,
I’ve been doing a bit more digging, and I think a little more information would be helpful here.

Could you send along a screenshot of what the form grid looked like before the breakage? I’m wondering if you had some custom CSS implemented, and that’s what broke as opposed to GiveWP’s code. Being able to see what you had running before the break happened will be a big help here.

Thanks for you patience while I’m looking into things! If you have questions in the meantime, I’m here to help.

    Hi @shihtzurescue,
It’s been a bit since we’ve heard back, and I know troubleshooting can take a little extra time. I’m marking this as resolved for now, but if you still have questions you can create a new ticket right here and we’ll be happy to hop in for another look. Have a great day!
