  • I’m setting up an online store for a client. They have two different types of items they are offering. One type will have free shipping, the other will be $4 per item.

I created two different “Shipping Classes” and applied these to the items. One is set to 0.00 for cost, the other is set to 4.00 for cost. Under Calculation Type I selected “Per Item – charge shipping for each item individually”.

Under Shipping Options I have the following:

    UPS Ground (5 – 7 days)|4.00|no

Now when I test this scenario and add (3) items to my cart which SHOULD be charged at $4 each, the shipping cost comes to $24. It should be $12.

And, if I were to increase the “quantity” of an item to (2), the shipping costs increases to $32 where it should simply be $16 ($4 per item x 4 items = $16).

Can anyone shed some light onto where I need to change my shipping settings?

  • I think I was getting even less function out of “shipping classes” bases shipping than you were … I got the “Per Product Shipping” extension and it is working as desired, though I just got it in the past 2 days and haven’t tested it thoroughly.

Thanks for the tip on that extension. I may need to pick that up to manage the shipping costs better.
