# Issue with “Database Update Required”

 * Hi,
 * I’m experiencing “Database Update Required” when I tried to login as an administrator.
   When I went ahead with it, I noticed there is an extra margin that appears on
   the top section of the admin dashboard. Besides this, I’m worried there could
   be some hidden issue that is not visible to eyes.
 * Could you advise what should I do? Thank you for your help!
 * The complete message is:
 * Database Update Required
 * WordPress has been updated! Next and final step is to update your database to
   the latest version.
 * The database update process may take a little while, so please be patient.

 * The Database update required message usually occurs if there has been a change
   to the database schema in a recent release. According to this [changeset](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/58975),
   there was such a change in the 6.7.1 release, which would have triggered the 
   message and the required update.
 * I’ve also noticed the extra margin at the top of the admin dashboard after such
   an upgrade, but usually when I refresh the page it goes away. This is likely 
   some whitespace being output during the upgrade.

 * Thank you for your inputs.
 * The extra margin is noticed on “Products” and “Orders” pages. When I refreshed
   the pages, it didn’t go away like what you experienced. I wonder whether are 
   there any workarounds like chnaging the db_version manually? Would there be any
   hidden changes made? I know this “Database Update” is unavoidable.

   update.
 * That sounds like something else, because the database update will run once, and
   shouldn’t affect your Products or Orders pages.
 * It could be the theme or a plugin that’s causing this. What I would usually recommend
   is to test your theme or plugins to find out if any of them could be the issue.
   
   This process requires making a copy of the site, either on a test site, or in
   a local environment. Then, set the theme to a default WordPress theme, and see
   if the problem persists. If it doesn’t, deactivate your active plugins one by
   one, and test each time if the problem persists.

 * Sorry, I think I wasn’t clear in my earlier message. The extra margin appeared
   at the top of the product and order pages within the admin dashboard. I’m wondering
   if this is caused by the recent database update or possibly by the theme/plugins.
