Support » Plugin: Post Tiles » Issue with category id numbers

  • Hi Eathan,

    Great plugin, I love it!

I have an issue with using [post-tiles categories=’1,2,4′]

I want the categories to display as [post-tiles categories=’2,3,9,5,4,6′]

However, when I use this, the page where the shortcode is imbeded will show the categories in the order of ‘9,6,5,4,3,2’

Is there a way I can prevent the order automatically descending, or a way to reassign category numbers so that I can get the page to display correctly?

    Thanks in advance,

  • Just to let you know, I have worked out that the order they are displaying in is not necesarily descending, the posts are showing in post order, even using the [post-tiles categories=’2,3,9,5,4,6′]

Are you referring the Post Tiles category key? The posts themselves order by date. I’d have to look into the order that the key is called. Alphabetical would make the most since I think. From a user standpoint. But that might not always be the case for each site.

Thanks for coming back to me.

Yeah I was refering to the category key, I’ve realised from your comments changing this won’t create the effect I am looking for and the posts are being displayed newest first. At the moment I’ve managed to break it down by placing the short code twice so the top row displays 3 categories and the bottom row displays 3 categories but it is the latest stories they are using. I tried using the sticky option but the plugin doesn’t register this either.

Ideally I just want to set chosen stories to feature in the tiles rather than the latest news, but I guess this won’t be possible?

There may be a work around. You could create alternate categories and tag the post in two categories. Like “News” and “Featured News”. And so even though News may have 60 posts you only keep 6 in Featured News. Then use Featured News in the Post Tiles shortcode.

I know that it ads more work and isn’t very neat but it might give you the desired presentation you were hoping for.
