    Hello.
I need to make an accessible site that has 0 “Known Problems” on the Web Accessibility Checker https://achecker.ca/checker/index.php
When I check ofthalmoi.gr on https://achecker.ca/checker/index.php an issue occurs with the tag <i class=”tg-icon tg-icon-bars”></i> which is used to show the menu icon on mobiles. The checker thinks the tag is intended for text and requests:
    __________________
Check 117: i (italic) element used.
Repair: Replace your i elements with em or strong.
    Error Line 158, Column 7:
    <i class=”tg-icon tg-icon-bars”></i>
    ___________________
I know that it’s not a real problem because we don’t have text in the tag but it is mandatory from the law that the checker doesn’t see this “issue”. How can we fix this?
    Thank you.

  • Hi @dimitris73

As the accessibility checker is understanding the <i></i> tag usage is for italic that is why the checker is suggesting to em or strong tag.

If you want you can always modify them via child theme.

    Thank you,

Would it be possible to let me know which file I have to edit?
    Thank you

If anyone else has the same problem: Go to
    /wp-content/themes/zakra/inc/hooks/header.php
    On line 460
    On
    <i class=”tg-icon tg-icon-bars”><?php echo esc_html( $mobile_menu_label ); ?></i>
change the two i to em

Since your site is built for accessibility, may I recommend you make this change from i to em (in future versions) so people don’t have to edit the code if they need an accessible site?
