Issue w/ margins for non-responsive site

    If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it…

    I removed the responsiveness from my site, however, now there is a big issue with the page margins and the width of the header and footer. First, I want my header and footer to extend the full width of the screen. It does on my screen, but not others. I currently have these widths set as pixels instead of percentages.

    Second, I want the margins to the right and left of the page content to collapse with the browser (like other non-responsive sites), BUT I do not want the actual content to collapse. Right now, the content remains the same size (which I want), but the margins stay the same. I assume this has something to do with setting the margins as pixel widths, but I can’t figure this out for the life of me.

    (To get an idea of what exactly I am looking for, go to ted.com and collapse the width of the browser and notice how the margins change but the content doesn’t.)

    If you are using pixels instead of percentages for the header and footer it will be fixed so if the site gets viewed on a different sized monitor or the browser is resized, it will not go to the full width of the screen.

    Thanks for the response. I changed the width to a percentage, but now the menu items are adapting with the screen change rather than staying fixed (note: there are two nav menus in the header).

    Any suggestions?
