A client passed on an issue that when making a popup, the “Edit with Elementor” option wouldn’t work. I went into the site and created a new popup to test. I get an error if I try to edit with Elementor “Preview can’t be loaded 404 error”. I actually didn’t know they were even editing their popups with Elementor, but they had been up until this point (for the last year). Something with the last update seemed to cause an issue.

Is there any information I can provide to troubleshoot what might be going on? I am just not sure where to start. I get a “Click for preview debug” in that error dialog box that pops up as well, but clicking it just opens the 404 page. It’s not an Elementor issue in any other posts types/pages on the site because I use it fine in those.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @torndownunits

We’re sorry to hear you’re unable to edit your popups.

We can’t edit a popup in Elementor even though you can turn on popup custom post types for Elementor to edit.

That’s because Elementor needs posts and pages to have a URL (slug). Popup custom post types don’t have a URL. Here’s the reference in the Elementor docs.

Popup Maker popups can only be edited with the WordPress Classic Editor and Block/Gutenberg Editor.

    See: https://wppopupmaker.com/docs/the-popup-editor/introduction-9/

We hope this helps. Let us know if you have other questions.

@mastehin ya my client has been editing the popups with Elementor for a year at this point. I have seen the popups they setup in the editor. It only stopped working with the last update. I didn’t even really know what to say to that reply of thiers based on that. So thanks for adding the video.

    Hi @torndownunits,

Elementor has their own builtin popup editor.

See here: Create a popup | Elementor

Could this be what your client has been working on?

In any case, the only way you can use Elementor elements inside a popup built with Popup Maker is if you create a template using Elementor, and then insert the template shortcode (eg. [elementor-template id="123"]) into Popup Maker’s popup editor.

Let us know if we can help with anything else. 🙏
