• Hey everyone, im mostly into joomla but i have seen that wordpress is way more search friendly, easy to use and faster and way better looking. But again i’m not sure about using wordpress because i’ve heard that it’s a blog software.
This is what i wanna built(the structure)
Home(where i want the latest blog posts)
and obviously i want them archieved in categories

Apart from that i also want http://www.mysite.com/meanings(when a user goes here, he gets to search and a list of all the meanings like, http://www.mysite.com/meanings/word and also another section called how-to(mysite.com/howto/article)

I also wanted a download section

I hope my message is clear. Not particularly good with words.

So finally is wordpress the right CMS for me or should i rather stick with joomla?

    Thanks

  • WordPress a also a simple, yet good CMS. The main difference with Joomla is the admin area. In Joomla you set up content, parameters and layout.
In WordPress, the admin area is for content and some blog-cms parameters. The layout part is handle by php files with html tags and special wordpress tags (which tell wordpress what and where to display data). Joomla is much more difficult to handle in order to master the whole thing, WordPress is much easier, but you have to know a very little php (the basic) and html to handle the page design (called Theme).
Also, you can keep WordPress very simple, or tweak a lot of features and make it as complicated and powerful as Joomla.

My advice: install wordpress somewhere and play with it, download plugins and themes and see if it is for you. It’s free anyway.
