Is WordPress right for me? (2 posts)

I have just been asked to design a website for a village Hall group who, amongst other simpler pages, want the public to be able to make online bookings of the hall, and also to be able to upload pictures of their activities at the Hall. There will be no online payments.
I thought WordPress might have some plugins that would make life easier for me than having to "re-invent the wheel" for such website elements. Am I right? Or are there better alternatives for this kind of thing? I have not used WordPress before.
I have some experience with DreamweaverMX2004 and simple use of PHP/MYSQL

You can create a static website using wordpress. The advantage is that with a bit of basic training they could manage their own content.
There are thousands of plugins you can use.
