 * I want a simple website but all the templates I’m finding with wordpress are
blogs. I don’t want “date posted” or replies and I want to be able to have some
   control over the test formatting.
 * Maybe I’m just not looking in the right place of I haven’t found the way to make
   the theme not blog.

 * All Themes in the [official WordPress repository](http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/)–
at least those submitted within the past year and a half or so – are perfectly
suitable for static content as well as for blogs.

 * Just because the blog tools are there, it doesn’t mean that you have to use them.
I’ve created quite a few non-blog sites for clients using perfectly standard
themes. Generally speaking, if you stick to just using Pages (as opposed to Posts)
and turn all commenting off, you should be fine.

 * I asked the same question and have sorted out the issues involved. You need to
turn off comments on each page you set up on your menu in the dashboard. Top
right of page, click screen options, and check comments.
    Also look(scroll down)
to bottom left of page and u check allow comments. This will sort it out. I am
now attemptig to change the styles of the theme.` All a headache

 * Thank you! This is very helpful.
 * I went back and deleted the “post” but now I don’t have a home page. Is there
a way to direct a “page” to be the home?
 * Unfortunately, at this point I can’t get anything to default to home.

 * Yes. See [creating a static front page](http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page).
