    Hi, we are a multi-CMS plugin development company, we have more than 500+ plugins for Joomla, wordpress, opencart, Prestashop, Drupal, etc.
    We currently have our website built on Joomla, where we have each CMS as category title, for example,

    category = WORDPRESS
    sub category = IMAGESLIDESHOW PLUGINS, SIDEBAR WIDGETS

    Then inside those sub categories, we have the plugins listed with DEMO and DOWNLOAD link.

    So, we have 2 types of customers : FREE MEMBERSHIP (paid single downloads), PAID MEMBERSHIP (subscription based downloads)

    So, basically a customer who is looking to buy just one module, he will simply register as free and click on DOWNLOAD and it takes him to cart page, and then he pays using PayPal or 2 checkout.

    And if a customer wants a lot of extensions, then he buys a subscription, so that he can get access to the whole CMS category, and download anything he wants, means when he clicks on DOWNLOAD, it automatically starts downloading, without taking him to shopping cart or asking any payment.

    So, basically if a customer who wants to buy WORDPRESS Plugins Subscription, then he buys the specific 1 year plugins subsciption and gets access to only WORDPRESS PLUGINS category and no other category at all.

    And if a customer who wants to buy WORDPRESS Themes Subscription, then he buys the specific 1 year plugins subsciption and gets access to only WORDPRESS THEMES category and no other category at all.

    So, this is how is our current setup is and we are looking to move our complete store to wordpress CMS.
    So can wordpress can handle this ?

    Can we achieve this with wordpress ?

    It may take some custom coding, but generally speaking, YES.
    If you have a huge amount of download traffic, some server configurations may need adjustment, but that’s not a WP issue. I don’t see a problem with typical plugin downloads, just thought it’s worth mentioning.

    An e-commerce plugin that supports downloadable products will get you most of the way there if not all the way.
