Hi, just installed Wordfence, getting this error:
“Unknown file in WordPress core: wp-admin/css/colors/blue/php.ini (+ 194 more)”

Looking back at past topics it seems that this is an issue with IONOS installing/not clearing ini files in WP directories. I just wondered if there was any resolution to this other than opening a ticket with IONOS which I imagine may not lead anywhere useful. I can only view one of the suspicious files at a time after running each scan, so doing this 194 times and posting here for someone to check is not practical…

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Hi hello4wordpress

I expect Support will be along shortly but your ticket caught my eye as I also have a Hosted account with IONOS.

Just checked and there are no ini.php files at that location or in other css/color folders on my install.

But with a Hosted account you can delete what is there and upload a fresh copy of WordPress (or parts of WordPress) yourself via SFTP. Deletion of files is also possible from the IONOS Account (Hosted) console.

The easiest option might be to re-install WordPress from WordPress/Dashboard/updates/Re-install now button. That should wipe the old and install the new without the problem files.

Hello @hello4wordpress and thanks for reaching out to us!

As @jim5471 had mentioned, these might just be old files that IONOS used. I don’t think you need to worry about anything being malicious from this folder but you could go through it to make sure nothing seems out of place or odd.

You could follow @jim5471 advice and reinstall WordPress or you could reach out to your hosting provider as you had mentioned, to make sure these files are ok. Another easy way would be to use the “Ignore” feature if you don’t want these to populate in your scan results anymore.

Let me know if this helps!

    Thanks!
