I am using a legacy template which when creating a new gallery automatically generates a new page and links the gallery to that newly created page.

Then when inserting the gallery into a post, the template shows only a strip with a limited number of thumbnails. Clicking on any of those thumbnails opens the gallery page, which contains the full gallery with all the thumbnails, where the user can interact with each one of them.

I am using an older version of the plugin, since I understand that the most recent does not support this type of configuration.

I would like to know if it is possible to use such a configuration with the most recent version of the plugin.

    I mean:

    • When creating a new gallery, automatically create a new page linked to it.

    • When inserting the gallery into a post, show only a certain amount of thumbs (as in the example image).

    • Clicking on those thumbs opens the gallery page.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi @sottovoce,

You can try to use NextGen’s albums instead. This will not automatically link the gallery to a page but you can add it to the album from "NextGen Gallery -> Manage Albums" and NextGen will link to the corresponding gallery page ( or better said to the images of that gallery ) when clicking on the corresponding preview image from the album page.

Also, with Basic Thumbnails gallery display type, you can limit the amount of images per page to paginate the rest results instead of displaying them all initially.

Thank you very much for your answer.

But that would mean adding a bunch of extra steps!

Currently I create the new page from the gallery itself using the “add page” button and that is all I have to do, since I have previously configured the ngg_add_page_shortcode filter, which creates the page using the necessary template in any new gallery .

From what I’ve read about the 2.0 version template , it looks like I’ll be able to recreate my legacy templates using views. But I would like to know if I will be able to create new pages from the gallery and link the galleries to those new pages like before.

    Thanks!

    Hi @sottovoce,

We are sorry to say that we don’t have a similar gallery display type like this one that you have mentioned and it got deprecated a while ago.

At this point in time, we can only register it as a feature request.

    Okay, I got it.

So I would like to ask you two specific and simple questions about how NextGEN Gallery 4.0.0 works:

1- Will the shortcode structure still work as described here?:

    https://www.imagely.com/docs/nextgen-gallery-shortcodes/

2- Will galleries have the ability to link to a page as described here?:

    https://www.imagely.com/docs/link-gallery-album-page/

    Thanks!

    Hi @sottovoce,

While we can’t guarantee that the shortcode structure will remain exact same or not ( we may add or change the attributes with the time ), I am not aware of such immediate plans to deprecate the existing attributes or the way NGG uses to link the galleries to pages.

    Ok, thank you @imagely
