Support » Installing WordPress » Is this way installation possible? And does it make sense?

  • I have a web made by other program installed on domain_name.com, but my aim is to shift step by step to WP.

I want to make it like this:

    1. on WP create the blog: domain_name.com/blog
    2. my web is made by other program and the address is: domain_name.com
    3. instal WP on domain_name.com and build the web
    4. link the blog with my domain_name.com

Will that work? Does it make sense?
or Do I need to make from the beginning installation of only WP on domain_name.com

  • hi,

    am i understanding you correct?

You have a website running under domain_name.com with a different system.
Now you want to change ur system to wordpress and under /blog, u want to re-create your website?

If i understood correctly, it is possible yeah.. but not the best practice.
It’s cleaner if you install your wordpress locally or on a subdomain like wp.domain_name.com, with a htaccess restriction.

And if you are ready, then change the files/domain.

    Hi jruescher,

    Thank you for your reply.

yes, I want to know if it is possible to join domain_name.com and domain_name.com/blog

I have the domain_name.com running already made not under WP,
but firstly I would like to add a blog under domain_name.com/blog and than create WP domain_name.com

or is it too difficult and will make me trouble?

    Yes, you can do that.

    Here is a tutorial:

    http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-install-wordpress-in-a-subdirectory-step-by-step/

Then all you need to do is create a link somewhere on your main website to your new blog.

    Hi Keith,

Thanks a lot. This is what I was looking for 🙂
    Great help.

    Cheers!
