Is this the future of WordPress?

I understand that plugin developers need to eat, and that a viable paid alternative is a preferred way to get an income, and that subscriptions are all the rage. But it seems that the ”free” versions nowadays are more of a demo, or a bait, to get subscribing users. The WordPress I came to love looks more and more like a clickbait web aggregator for unscrupulous developers.

Code is not always poetry, sometimes it’s just a disguised racket.
