[Resolved] Is there an easier way.

  • I want to have a small section of my post to appear on the main page. And have a link that takes the reader to the rest of the post.

I have read up on how to do this, but I simply can not figure this one out. At all. I have given up.

Do other themes make this function easy to achieve.

  • First make a back-up copy of your theme in case you mess up.

Go into your WP-Admin > Themes > Theme Editor

    Click on “Main Index Template”

do a “Find” or search in that template for the words: the_content

    replace it with the_excerpt

    Save.

Now go WP Admin > Manage > Posts. Select one of your posts. Write something in the “Excerpt” field, and re-save the post.

Now go to your blog. You should see the Excerpt for that post.

    OK?

You can also use the Read more tag, inserted into the post, without touching the templates. Look for the “more” button in your editing window.

There are plugins like Excerpt editor that do that too, automatically.

    Yes!
