Support » Localhost Installs » Is there an opensource alternative to DW where I can visually edit wp themes?

  • I use xampp to install wordpress on localhost. I know it is possible to visually edit wordpress themes on localhost through dreamweaver.

Is there any opensource alternative that can do the same? where I can edit the css and stuff visually? Basically when I open the index.php it must not show all the php tags, but must render it as a normal site in the visual editor etc. And then I must be able to edit the css through the visual editor aswell.

Thanks, I hope someone can help me.

  • Artisteer is a tool that has a free trial :

    http://www.artisteer.com/?p=demo

There is a WP plugin for creating HTML pages (not theme editing) :

    http://wordpress.org/plugins/plugnedit/

And this tool can create HTML pages with CSS :

    http://www.freshpursuits.com/canvas/

However, you have to change them to PHP custom templates and CSS in the real working stylesheet.

There is no alternative to hand coding to be honest. You can use Browser Tools like Opera Dragonfly to test changing the CSS (kind of virtually) from frontend. In real time you will see the changes, copy / change the desired CSS.
