Support » Plugin: WordPress Popular Posts » Is there a way to display category on thumbnail?

  • Hello great plugin and thanks for all the hard work responding to each of us with problems. I was looking for some help in trying to make this work.

I set up popular post from each category and displayed them on my sidebar but i would like to show the category name on the thumbnail for each widget instance and also hide widget title so it cna look like one big list. Is this possible?

Im good with coding so if you have a snippet or something i could try i can definitely do that.

An example of this is on http://www.buzzfeed.com/ under “Big Stories”

Hi Steve, thank you for your kind words.

i would like to show the category name on the thumbnail for each widget instance

At the time of writing this, the category name is not being included on the listing when pulling the data from your database – so you’d need to modify the queries to get it included first, and then display it on your listing.

Displaying it in front of the thumbnail is perfectly possible. You can use the Custom HTML Markup option to include just the thumbnail and the category name (after having it included on the list and changed the output a bit), and then use CSS to position the category name on top of the thumbnail using absolute positioning.

However, all this work seems like a lot to me. If I were you, I’d simply edit the images to include the category name there.

hide widget title so it can look like one big list

Well, you can hide the titles by setting each Widget’s title to blank.
