Is there a similar theme already? (7 posts)

I'm all set to do this from scratch as I haven't seen any WP themes that are similar but as the lazy programmer that I am, I prefer to modify an existing one rather than type everything in from scratch. ;)

I'm thinking of a 3 column design with content on the left and two "menu areas" -- one in the middle which will be links and one to the right which will have the calendar, recent posts, recent comments, and meta links. There is a graphic that is tall and narrowish rather than the Kubrick long type. I want this graphic to be on the right side and the middle "menu" will start below it but the right "menu" will overlap part way down.

This is sort of what I was playing with based on the bricks theme but it's not quite right. The content needs to be closer to the top and the right-most menu needs to be lower.

And yes, I realize I can keep fiddling with this but looking at the code, it will require a lot of clean up. I was just sort of hoping for a better starting point if anyone knows of one. ;)

Hmmm...never mind. I think I might use this as a starting point.

You can always check out the existing themes

I have admired the works demo'd in the theme viewer, many times. Most of them have the wide-type graphic at the top and two columns.

If you ask my stained glass art teacher, I never can do things the easy way. I've got to make things complicated.

Well, here are the three identifiable features that I saw in the design you quoted:

    1. White background

    2. Two sidebars

    3. Large female picture

So, I went sniffing around and found two. Unfortunately, both have the sidebar(s) on the right, but they are similar to what you're looking for:

I wish there was an easier way to dummy up a desktop version of WP since I won't have internet connection this weekend.

    But I'll manage. ;)
