Since we also verified by checking the page source of the given page — https://roofrepairquote.com.au/roof-restoration/, we do see there’s a meta description information on the page source clearly outputted by the Yoast SEO. The Google lightbox report seems to be a false positive one.

You might simply ignore it or reach out to their support for further assistance.

Though it’s not related to the current concern, we would recommend you to update your Yoast SEO to the latest version v17.7.1 as you’re using the older version.

Ok but that doesn’t solve the issue of the pge not display correct title tags?

    @benpde22

Apology, I seem to miss the title part.

The page title appearing in the page source is:

<title>Roof Restoration Perth | We Supply A Total Roof Restoration Service</title>

Can you please confirm if this is what you exactly input in the SEO title field within the Yoast SEO metabox of that particular page?

If the inputted SEO title doesn’t match with the outputted on the source then it’s closely related to your theme issue.

Technically, the title and meta description both exist on the page. We understand that Google is showing a different title and meta description from the one you set in Yoast.

Unfortunately, this is common. While Google typically uses the title and meta description from the metadata for indexing, this is not always the case. The title and meta description you enter in our snippet preview are suggestions for Google. Google’s goal is to best represent and describe each result. They use a number of different sources to get this information. In doing so, they try to make the search results as relevant as possible. Due to this being handled on Google’s end, there is little you can do to force Google to display your preferred title.

Using the URL Inspection Tool can sometimes force Google to update its index.

    Hi @benpde22

Back in August 2021, Google made an update to how it would display titles in the search results. You can learn more about it here and here.

For https://roofrepairquote.com.au/roof-restoration/, while the title tag is:

<title>Roof Restoration Perth | We Supply A Total Roof Restoration Service</title>

    The H1 heading is:

    <h1 class="entry-title">Roof Restoration Perth</h1>

When doing a SITE: search for that specific page here, it does look like it is utilizing the H1 heading instead of the <title> tag. You may have to check if refining both the title tag as well as the H1 heading would possibly influence how the title outputs in the search results.

the h1 and title tag target the same word though??

    Hi,

Yes, we do consider having the ‘focus keyphrase’ as part of your page title and SEO title important as it helps Google and the other search engines clearly define what the page is about (as there is an assessment or analysis in the Yoast SEO plugin that would notify you if you haven’t included it in those titles).

You can learn more about how to optimize your titles in this article in our SEO blog – https://yoast.com/page-titles-seo/
