• My site is http://www.thewriterscoin.com and people have been able to Stumble it no problem until after the latest update. Now one person submits it and it still doesn’t say that it’s been SU’d. It seems like the apostrophe in the title of my site is causing a problem, but I can’t tell for sure.

Can anyone help me out with this?

  • It’s not the apostrophe – but it might be the 139 validation errors on the site. Clean that up, and you’ll probably fix the issue.

These all seem to be & errors. I had no idea I had to code them in a particular way on the site. Most of them are amazon.com links. Jeez.

Is there a quick way of changing all these or will I have to go in there and fix all of them manually?

Well, most of them are dynamically generated. So wherever you can, change that code from “&” to “& amp ;” (no spaces, of course. 3rd party code is usually hard to change – but you do what you can) It’s because you doctype is XHTML – that’s why. it’s not a WordPress thing, it’s a doctype thing.

If the apostrophe is the issue (I really don’t see how it could be) then I’d say it’s a SU thing. It doesn’t make sense though, that this would hte the problem. I’d fix the validation issues and then see if that helps. If not, then maybe download Firebug (for Firefox) and run it while you load up your site – that gives you a lot of info on what the problem might be. IN fact…nope. It’s fine. I’d say try fixing those validation errors and that should take care of it. Could be that SU is having some issues on their end.

Amazon does not generate valid xhtml ad code and I always have to correct it. However, I’ve never seen their code mess up a site. Fix the non-Amazon “end tag for” errors first.

As for the apostrophe, yes these can cause problems when you are copy and pasting things from a WordPress site. WordPress uses fancy quotes, not plain or typed keyboard quotes, and programs do not consider them the same. For example:

    The Writer’s Coin

Is actually with its fancy quote:

    The Writer’s Coin

So The Writer’s Coin (fancy) is not the same as The Writer’s Coin (plain).

Oh yeah – good point. That is true. I just assumed he typed in the apostrophe – not copied it!

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I’ve fixed all the & issues and every other little detail. I am now error free!

Thanks for the help here, now I’m off to test this and make sure SU isn’t freaking out on me anymore.
