• We use Contact Form 7 on about 40 different active WordPress installs. Today, I noticed that all of the recaptcha areas are either blank or contain the [recaptcha] tag instead of Google’s v2.0 recaptcha. The 3 never showed for us before, so we use 2. Upon checking Contact Form 7’s interface, I notice that there’s no longer a button to add a recaptcha.

Is this being phased out or is it just broken? That feature’s important to us.

  • Check this out, particularly the bottom line:

reCaptcha V3 is supposed to work without a checkbox in your form. In any case you need new keys from Google as the V2 keys do not work with this plugin. Sadly, the spam protection also does not work with CF7 5.1. Try to upgrade to CF7 5.1.1, and read the various forum messages on this item.

Yes looks like Contact form has ditched Version 2 and gone with version 3. You no longer need the recpatcha field. However, since implementation, I’ve been receiving more spam from Version 3. Google needs time to learn the traffic. But I’m not sure if that’s the issue or not.

Chris, @cmather, please note that the developer has released an update for the plugin 7 hours ago. We have tested it and strongly suggest applying that update (especially if you want to stop SPAM).

Thanks, @locascioa – Yes that update fixes the spam issue. Haven’t received a single spam request in V3 from over 30,000 hits. Cheers.
