Is its parent directory writable by the server?

  • Okay, I’ve tried many times to re-install WP and watched videos and read through the blogs, yet I’m still having the same issue. My GoDaddy account and web-site work fine.. But the software was installed through them. I have to assume there is a fault either with the download (which doesn’t include folders that the system is obviously looking for) or the account is faulty somehow. I can make posts all day long but the folders are NOT being created. I’ve looked at the other posts prior to me but their fixes were based on an earlier version of WP and there is no longer such a thing as “miscelaneous” anymore.. Though the link update I did find and put in, but again the folders are not being made. My folders are set to “777” but it’s not so lucky as the number suggests..

Anyway, I’m getting rather irritated with this whole thing so any help would be appreciated!

  • Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

Well, so far so good.. I hope that did it.. was it something I missed during the install or is it just because it’s a custom site?

It varies according to the host and/or server configuration.
