• My client has a blog with russian content. I have upgraded some of my security recently including an IP address lockout plugin (Limit Login Attempts). For the last few days that has locked out the same IP address (in Kiev).

Should I block that IP address using .htaccess or is that just going to make the hacker more determined? Shall I just trust the IP blocker plugin and keep WordPress up to date and hope for the best?

    cheers

  • Hi mattchezza,

I think the determination question isn’t as simple as that, since we can’t say yes or no. I’d say that by blocking his IP it shows that the security, for that particular blog, is active and thus “could” help.
But as I said, there’s no way we could know for sure what he will do next.

If you’ve a secure password should you worry about login attempts at all?

If you’re going to block some IP addresses, maybe you should instead only allow YOUR IP addresses to access the admin page (considering your IP doesn’t change that much)
