• Hi Guys, im hoping to get some answers and some direction on the development of our site. We have launched “Global Sound Authority” about 2 months ago.
It is a music related website which consists of things like Artist Biographies, label Spotlights, Reviews etc and News.
As im putting more effort into this than any other previous attempts, both timewise and financially, I need to make sure that what Im doing is the right way.

Every article is now in Post form and only have pages for privacy policy, contact etc.

My main question is: should I keep all content in Post form or should I have articles like Artist biographies etc (That is timeless content and we want it to be up and rank for years to come) in page format, and only have lets say the News in Post format?

So do posts expire and lose rank sooner than a page might?

As the site is relatively new, i would like to correct it now rather than later when the task could be enormous.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
    Marcin

If by rank you’re referring to a rank on a search engine results page then you might want to talk to Google’s forums instead: http://groups.google.com/forum

Hi Andrew, my question is not specific to Google search. The reason it was posted here in a WordPress help forum is because I was hoping to get an answer from someone who has a lot of experience is using WordPress.

    The question is quite simple,
Can WordPress POSTS keep a stable ranking like for example a WordPress PAGE might, or does the fact that POSTS are time stamped and archived by time etc, make them maybe not as likely to hold position and in a sense begin to expire because Search Engine(s) might consider it as old and no longer relevant content?

As far as search engines, including Google, are concerened there is no differenve wahtsoever between a ‘post’ and a ‘page’. All the SE’s see is a document, and that’s what they index. They don’t “expire” of get downgraded just for being categorised by a name in WordPress.

If you’re concerned about loosing rankings because of time stamps showing, remove them. That’s the only reasonable way of thinking for that. But they won’t make a difference overall – a lot of older results still show up in search results. Just remember that a time stamp showing on a page would be only a (very) tiny fraction of the overall ranking algorythm, which changes constantly anyway.

And to clarify, this has nothing at all to do with WordPress. It is really something that is up to Google and only Google.
