is it possible to replace the title characters w/ corresponding graphics?

I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way to detect the characters in a page or post title and use corresponding graphics instead of plain text. So, you would have a folder that contains graphics called a.gif, b.gif, etc. and these graphics would be called in as needed to spell the title. Is that in the realm of possibility? Maybe using get_the_title()?
