We use Buffer to publish to Instagram because Instagram does not provide a publicly available API to send images. Only a few organizations (like Buffer) have access to such API.
That said, Buffer’s API does not allow us to select if the image goes to Instagram’s feed or Instagram stories.
But if your Instagram profile is not a business profile and, then, Buffer notifies your mobile device when we send a message through them. There you can select if you want to copy the message image to your feed or to Instagram stories.
As you can see, not a perfect solution, but it is the best we can offer without breaking the terms and conditions of Instagram (I know other plugins break them, but we want to keep everything legal here). Fortunately, it seems that Facebook planned to open Instagram’s API to third-party developers like us. Hopefully they will do that soon 🙂
