Is it possible to display blog by authors rather than date?

I am helping a group of 9 friends set up a photo blog. They want to display the most recent post from each of the nine contributors, rather than the most recent 9 posts overall. In effect, this would be sort of like curating 9 separate blogs on one home page. Does anyone know of a plugin that could help with this sort of thing? I found this plugin but it hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. There is also documentation about query_posts(), which says that this method (which the plugin uses) isn’t ideal. That page links to pre_get_posts. I am not a developer nor particularly code-savvy, so much of this is over my head. Ideally, I’d like to find a plugin (or some sort of workaround) that would help with this.

Another way to think of it would be like a newspaper homepage that always displays the latest article for each section of the paper – lifestyle, news, sports, finance, etc. Except in this case, each section would be a different blog author.
