Is it possible to disable the responsive image 'srcset' on WordPress 4.4?

Hi,

I’m using a plugin on my site to upload files directly to Amazon s3 and delete them from the local media. However, because WordPress 4.4 uses responsive images system, I can see that the featured images on my site are showing 404 because WordPress is [likely] forcing to use the local server source instead of S3.

Images inserted into the post do not have a problem being served from the S3. But the featured images have an srcset link to local server (/wp-content) where the file does not exist.

Is there an easy way to disable the responsive image feature from WordPress 4.4?

That totally solved the issue.

But I’m curious if this can be turned into a plugin or something like that? It’d be awesome if there was an option in the core (settings page perhaps?) to disable this.

This appears to be the cause of a new problem I’m having with images in the RSS feed. When I plug my feed into the validator at:
https://validator.w3.org/feed/

It says:

This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.

line 41, column 0: content:encoded should not contain srcset attribute

line 41, column 0: content:encoded should not contain sizes attribute

The problem (broken images) shows up in Mailchimp where I use the RSS-to-email template.

Joseph, this is going to sound really obtuse but how do I install this plugin? I’m having a fuzzy image problem and it sounds like this might fix it.

I wrote my own plugin to successfully solve this problem, but I tested the one @joseph Fusco shared and that works too.

Go and Download Zip to your PC from Joseph link after go to your site admin Dashboard> Plugins> Add New> Upload Plugin

Installed this plugin and re-uploaded the photos… fixed the problem!!

Dang, the plugin doesn’t seem to solve my problem with the RSS feed.

I take it back. On the recommendation of my web host, I turned off the WP-Super Cache plugin and then resubmitted the feed to the validator and it came up clean.

And then I tested it with Mailchimp and it works.

Of course. 🙂 Feel free to submit any issues to the Github repo if I don’t get to it first (It is synced up with the plugin directory). Hopefully plugin/theme developers can bring their projects up to speed soon so everyone can take advantage of responsive images without issues.
