• I was wondering: is is possible to ACTUALLY create the category folders that the posts are supposed to be in? ie, with my permalink options my URI looks like mydomain.com/category/post-name , but of course, that category doesn’t exist nor the post name (I mean if you look via FTP).

If this is possible, then the very sought after option of password protecting a category would be a breeze! Of course, I tried it manually creating the category via FTP and adding some .htaccess and .htpasswd but it doesn’t work, so I’m guessing there’s more to it

    Any ideas?

  • If I understand your question correctly, then the answer is No. Your posts are stored in the database…not as files in your file system. And your categories are just references in the database–they don’t actually exist as directories (file folders). So, you don’t have files in folders like you would typically see on your computer (with the exception of your uploaded files)…you have entries in a database that are dynamically displayed on your blog.

Yes Figaro, you got it right and what you’re saying is exactly what I thought, so guess my question would be if there’s a chance to reference that database in a different way, using either categories or tags and then ask for a password. Right now the only solution I came ‘cheat’ this is to not linking the posts and name the category in a weird way, thus sending the private area by mail to my site’s user, but guess there must be a more elegant option 🙂
