Is it possible that the twenty ten theame is corrupt . Can I clean reinstall it considering it’s the foundation theme.

My problem began before the existence of the twenty ten, a few years ago I used an unapproved free theme and suffered the consequences. Despite wordpress updates, theme changes until the arrival of the Twenty ten incarnations many issues persisted. Often issues were put down to the wordpress having been installed on a windows server. My server provider does not have their windows servers compatible with WordPress. Problems solve barring those that are known Windoze servers issues.

    Until

After Christmas my server provider refused to allow me to install a wordpress installation on the Legacy server, I must migrate all my sites to the Cluster Server. A headace on so many levels but eventually I migrated a number of other wordpress sites all issues solved as they came along.

Until the last, the oldest wordpress site a few pre twenty ten issues arose and required updates to clear up. the database was a night mare and required a lot of tweeking (bits deleted) before it could be installed.

When I migrated the site I decided to try the child theme for Twenty ten Weaver. I’m certain I can use it make the site branding resemble the html sister site. I’m familiar with Weaver 2010 & Weaver from other wordpress installations.

during the alterations I discovered a number of things.

    1. When I uploaded an image. It uploads, lists the correct route address but isn’t physically isn’t there on screen or when when I check the folders via FTP (I’ve suggested to my server provider that diverts on their side are in play, their answer: ‘they don’t answer wordpress queries’) try the forums.

    2. Weaver 2010 specific, the theme changes but when I attempt alter colours, the menu bar and other details and save changes the system appears to be saving the changes but the changes do not occur on the visible website. they stay as per the twenty ten theme.

    3. I tried changing to the more recent Weaver this time with out changing anything on the theme the menu list is wordafterwordafterword with out spaces again the colour changes go though the process of saving but don’t appear on the site. I’ve asked my server provider if it’s possible there is a third version of the site on the Servers somewhere and that perhaps redirects are still in play? 365 say they don’t support wordpress queries, take it to the forums. [the wp-config.php relates to the migrated new installation.]

In short: I can change themes and post articles, I must use alternate url locations for images as the setup uploads the images but where they go I don’t know, certainly not the folder outlined in the URL. Changing visual details on the weaver themes just not happening.

Can I some how over write the current installation of twenty ten with a clean version? I read it’s a big no no on uninstalling it completely

    Thank you for your assistance
    Deirdre

[I can’t download the original database because the legacy server will not load the My AdminPHP after it accepts my login details, I must rely on the tech support & well as you’ll have gathered it’s a longwinded, convoluted process, (it takes weeks)]

Now that ‘esmi Theme Diva’ has demonstrated that they don’t know the answer or can’t be bothered reading the query. I’ll rephrase the Question

    1. Elsewhere it says twenty ten should not be removed? To clean install it must be. (the website is currently using another theme). Is twenty ten such an essential component to the wordpress system? that it can’t be removed?

    2. Would the issues with Weaver 2010 & Weaver child themes for twenty ten outlined above be caused by a corrupt twenty ten theme?

esmi is merely providing you with the link to where you can download the twentyten theme, which you can then upload to your themes directory, overwriting your existing copy of the theme.

    1. you can probably take it out as long as you have another theme activated, but I’ve never tried this. if it doesn’t work just put it back.

    2. possibly, since it’s a child theme it relies on files from the parent theme.

it’s also possible that the user PHP is running under doesn’t have write access to your upload directory.
