Support » Fixing WordPress » Is it possible (?) Password protected entries, avatars, alternating comments

  • I haven’t yet used WordPress but I’ve been doing a lot of research, on the forums and the net at large. I have a few questions:

I was hoping to have a system where commenters could pick from a collection of avatars I have. The system doesn’t have to remember who picks what, but everytime a poster comments s/he should have the option to pick an avatar.

My ideal would be allowing the the commenter to click a link, a popup show the list of avaliable avatars (and if it could just list everything in an avatar directory, that would be good), and let them click to chose one. Is this possible?

I was under the impression that certain entries/categories could be hidden in WordPress a la Livejournal. This is correct?

Finally, everyone’s (seemingly not so much) favorite topic, alternating comments. I looked at the forum posts and I’m trying to do something a little different:
I’m trying to do something like this:
(hence the desire for user chosen avatars)
I’m a complete newbie and don’t know how to do that with the mycomments plugin or anything else.

    Any advice would be helpful!

  • To clarify, as for the comments, I understand how different colors can be made to alternate, but I’m not sure how to do it with different table structures. When I used to use movable type I was able to get the colors to alternate, but the avatars and bubbles would all be the same way, not right/left as on the above page.

As for the avatars, I’m aware of gravatars, but I would like to use my own images only.

Thank you so much in advance!
