Is it disruptive to site visitors whenever I update a plug-in or add a new one?

    I’ve always wondered what happens on the front end whenever I update a plug-in or install a new one. Does it bring down the site in the few moments during the install or update? Right now, I need to update a plug-in, but I hesitate to do the update when there are visitors.
