I know the question has been asked a lot about renaming the index file of WP and using .htaccess, in order to use another index page in its place (for a home page). I have another CMS managing this and I’m not ready to change my home page over yet–but I want my blogs to have a proper directory url.

The question is, is there a better idea that I should be looking at, and is this a bad idea for any number of reasons?

I’d like my users blogs to be domain.com/user (not sure if thats possible without tweaks), or domain.com/blog/user where the “blog” directory is a feed page of all blogs, maybe the sitewide tags plugin?

So, should I install wordpress into my main directory and edit up the index file and .htaccess so wordpress does not load on the home page, or is there a better install location idea that I should consider?

    Thank you!

The problem is moving WordPress Multisite is a pain :/ Normally I’d say install in a subfolder (since 3.5 will work that way) except you want to setup the ‘run in it’s own folder’ before you turn on Multisite, so that won’t help you at all.

If WP can’t load index.php it won’t work at all really :/

What CMS are you using for the old site? Is it just the home page or other associated pages that need to stay active as well? Maybe move the old site into a subfolder them do a JavaScript redirect in your wp theme when a user goes to the home page.

I’m using ip.content, which is an addition for ip.board. Its similar to a single install wordpress in a way. Mainpage plus articles in categories with custom html pages, etc.

So whats my best option to give users as short URL possible, while keeping everything working properly? … Also with the possibility of replacing ip.content with wordpress down the road in mind.
