Support » Plugin: Yoast SEO » Is “excluding posts from search” bad for media indexing?

Hello, I tend to exclude posts from indexing because a lot of my websites don’t have (blog) posts. But now I suspect that I also exclude all media files (images etc) with this (which are also posts somehow)? Is this correct? Do “posts” technically also cover media files?

Any clarification on this would be super helpful for me. Thanks a lot!

    Thank you!

    Best regards
    Pierre

    Hello Pierre,

Thanks for reaching out about the indexing of your content.

Excluding posts from being indexed is different from excluding media files. For instance, in the Yoast SEO plugin, you exclude posts by navigating to WordPress > SEO > Search Apperance > Content Types > Posts. However, this does not affect media files like images. And yes, they are contents in their own right.

Furthermore, excluding or noindexing media files is not a ready feature in the plugin. It involves the use of X-Robots-Tag. You can learn more at https://yoast.com/x-robots-tag-play/

So to re-assure you, when you noindex your posts, you do not automatically noindex media files that way.
