Support » Installing WordPress » Is Ensim or cPanel better for my web server control panel?

  • Hello. I had to move servers because the old server I was on didn’t have MySQL 4.x, which I need for the latest WordPress upgrade. My old server had the Ensim control panel.

My host is offering me 2 choices:

    1. server with cPanel control panel (I have to change my wp-config because my passwords and paths will change), or,

    2. “our only Ensim server which has MySQL 4.1 (it is manually upgraded by administration)”

I don’t know if that is a significant issue, the fact that the MySQL is manually upgraded in the second choice. Is that bad, or no big deal?

  • I prefer cPanel for a control panel but Ensim works (as you know).

Not too sure what the “manually upgarded” refers to but if they are upgrading your database server I’d want to get a backup of the database right now!

When you talk about cPanel, there are many versions. And what you have with your cPanel depends on the hosting company that can add/remove functions and change the entire design. I know it because I have used cPanel from totally different hosting companies.

I have no knowledge over Ensim.

Resetting my wp-config won’t be a big deal. I do it all the way when I have to change the password of MySQL database.

    Good luck.

G’day guys…I haven’t been doing this for that long but am getting a handle on cPanel and feel safe (so far)
    My question is this:
How do I create another database for creating a new blog off same host??

    cheers

    chooky

Actually don’t even need another database, just use a different $table_prefix in your wp-config.php for the 2nd blog.

    See Installing_Multiple_Blogs for details.

Thank you guys for the input. I still can’t decide, LOL.

Here’s what the Host told me today:

” – The cPanel has some new features on control panel like addom domains better mail filters etc. About the Ensim server, we have tested it before and we have no problem reports from the sites using MySQL 4.1 on it and it is working fine.”

I’m inclined to just go with Ensim because I know it. What do you think about those “new features” he mentioned for cPanel, is that anything I want? (Addom domains, what is that… and better mail filters, is this useful??)
