    Hi guys,

I’ve had some very bad experiences with site speed in the past, and have since been very reluctant to install more than 3-4 plugins per site. Nowadays I have only one caching plugin, one optimizing plugin (wp-optimize as recommended by my host) and one site-specific plugin. I’m on the verge of installing an SEO plugin right now, and was looking into the All in One SEO plugin.

Upon doing more research, I came across an article written by my host, who specifically stated that this particular plugin (All In One SEO), is known to cause issues.

Now, I’ve no idea how long ago the article was written, but my host is a big company and this article is part of their ‘resources’ which they have made available for us. There are no dates on the article, but it would seem that it is the most updated version, as it is there for everyone to see.

My questions are, I hope to understand how an SEO plugin could potentially bring down a site (in terms of speed and database issues), and whether anyone has had problems? Thanks in advance.

To be blunt, the person who wrote that article doesn’t know what he’s talking about. All in One SEO Pack has been in development for 10 years and is actively used on millions of websites and does not cause performance issues. The can easily be tested.
If there were performance issues we would correct them.

    Who is your hosting company?

Hi Michael, thanks for clarifying. I am using Hostgator and here is the article in question: http://support.hostgator.com/articles/specialized-help/technical/wordpress/wordpress-plugins

Thanks for the link. Whoever wrote that article doesn’t know what he’s talking about. AIOSEOP doesn’t cause performance issues (again, if it did, we’d fix them), and “WordPress is already built on an SEO platform, complete with a built-in sitemap” is a nonsensical statement. Their “recommended” SEO plugin in the linked article is a little-known plugin that almost nobody uses.

As I said, AIOSEOP has been in development for a decade, and is actively used on millions of websites. There are no performance issues.
Personally, I’d recommend finding a better hosting company, as Hostgator (along with the other EIG companies) are known for being terrible. https://www.google.com/#q=hostgator+eig&*
