• My hosting provider is a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 shop that supports IIS 6, PHP 4.3.3, and SQL Server 2000. Is there any way to use WordPress in this environment without installing MySQL?

  • WordPress is designed around using PHP with MySQL. You probably could try running it on MS SQL Server but every implementation of SQL is different. I’d wager that it will either fail during the install or perhaps will give you all sorts of headaches when you try to use it with MS SQL Server. IMHO, you’d be better off getting MySQL installed or switching to another host who has LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) setup for you.
