Have blog running X1 year – love it. Added mobile app for iPhone at same time – works. Got an iPad for Christmas – went to add WordPress blog and won’t let me sign on. Keeps giving me a “XML-RPC Error bad login/pass combination” and I can get no further. On the iPhone app, when I sign in the first time, it, too gives that message, but then I can proceed to the already established blog site. However, if I were to try to add another (I did that just to see), I get the same message. Is there something I need to do? I’ve tried all the password and user combinations I have – .com password, the admin password, the website password – nothing seems to bypass this error. HELP!!

  • Is this a self-hosted blog or a wordpress.com site?

A self-hosted blog – I have my own domain and server. I presume that means “self-hosted.” I have to confess my son set this up when I began using this, and I have never had an issue prior to this. The iPhone app works well – it does give me that same error message, but then I go and do what I need to. I was setting it up on the iPad when it wouldn’t let me go any further. I set this up almost a year ago, and so I don’t recall exactly how I did this.

Your question got me try another approach. Since I had thought this was a “hosted” blog, that was what I kept trying. After your post, I went to “self-hosted” and entered all the password materials – and voila! I’m on. Still have no idea why I’m getting that error message on the iPhone, but since everything works now, I guess it really doesn’t matter. Thanks for the prompt! It made me rethink the possibilities, and I “solved” the problem. I consider this “resolved” now as I have the blog on my iPad and can go from there. Thanks to all!
