Support » Fixing WordPress » IP Issues – “Your IP has been blacklisted” error

  • Hi all,

    I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago, but as it disappeared itself, I didn’t proceed with that post. But here we go again.

    In a nutshell:

    1. A visitor has reported he couldn’t access my site, and he gets an error message on the screen saying “Your IP 134.249… … has been blacklisted!” There are two bizarre aspects of this error:
    a. This IP has not been blacklisted by my plugin (I use IP blacklist Cloud);
    b. This is not his actual IP (Which would be 67.248……) – it represents even a different country (However, I have no idea how assigning of IPs works). Anyway, the IP from the error message is not the same as the real IP. I have checked the IP assigned to all his previous visits – it was always the same, and it has nothing to deal with that IP from error message;
    c. Two weeks ago 6 folks reported the same error message within a week (And again their actual IPs were different from those they saw in the error message). I also experienced the same error from my phone (Accessing from the laptop was fine) back in January. That problem disappeared itself after I updated some plugins. So far this time I have heard from one person.

    2. I use IP blacklist Cloud primarily including for keeping my blacklist. There are also iThemes Security, Sucuri Security, commentluv, and some other plugins. Removing these plugins doesn’t help.

    Sadly, I am not savvy at all, so I have even no idea what, besides the security plugins (and possible malware but I’ve tested my blog on Sucury – nothing found), might have caused the problem. As far as I understood, the problem is not about blacklisting IPs – it’s about not recognizing / switching /substituting peoples’actual IPs.

    Hope this describes the problem all right.

    1-Check CONSOLE area for Javascript errors
    When I visited there were a bunch on this page

    2-Have you tried
    install health check plugin which can be used in troubleshooting mode to deactivate all plugins and theme
    might help narrow down the source of the issue

    3-Do you think there might be an issue with hosting plan? I saw this message when visiting your site
    “Resource Limit Is Reached
    The website is temporarily unable to service your request as it exceeded resource limit. Please try again later.”
