Support » Fixing WordPress » Invisible categories – including on 'recent posts' or similar

  • Hey all,

    I recently started building a WordPress Travel Writing submission based online magazine. I am creating posts that take a number of different styles. One is called a ‘list article’ – as seen on

    On these articles I want the first page to appear on the homepage of my site (which it does). I then don’t want the proceeding posts which are linked to the original by a ‘next button’ to be visible at all on the site unless it’s through pressing the first posts ‘next’ button. Essentially creating what appears to be a single post to the reader.

    So, I have created an ‘invisible category’ which I put all the linked but invisible posts into. They now don’t show up on my front page. I used the following coding in the admin-functions.php file and it worked a treat:

    if (is home()) {
    query_posts(“cat=-9”) ;

    However, along my sidebar I have a ‘posts elsewhere’ section and the invisible category posts still appear in this – kind of undermining my invisible front page.

    Does anyone know how to make this invisible category also invisible to the ‘posts elsewhere sidebar?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Oh, and if you need it, my website domain is the following:

    The category of article I am trying to resolve this for is ‘reasons to travel’ under the ‘be inspired’ main navigation button.
